More effective and shorter treatment, fewer side effects and a decrease in the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics; these are the potential benefits of a new test to examine the effect of antibiotics in just six short minuts, according to the Danish Advanced Technology Foundation.

“Many patients are currently treated with broad-spectrum antibiotics. It creates huge problems with multiresistant bacteria. The reason for the overuse of broad-spectrum antibiotics is that it can take hours to find the most appropriate antibiotic, which in some cases can be life-threatening for patients. This new breakthrough means that the effects of antibiotics can be tested in six minuts,” the foundation writes in a press release.
