Artificial hips increase the risk of blood clots and stroke

Results from a new large-scale study involving thousands of Danish patients worry a Danish professor. But medicine could reduce the risk.

The risk of strokes and blood clots increase if a patient is given an artificial hip, according to an international research project, involving thousands of Danes.

The results have been published in Denmark by the Department of Health Science and Technology at Aalborg University. Professor Peter Vestergaard from the department is a part of the group of Dutch and Danish scientists, who have examined patient information on the many Danes with artificial hips.
