Massive surge in EU drug seizures

There has been a huge rise in the number of drug seizures in the EU from countries outside of the European Union. It is highly alarming, says The Danish Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry and appeals for tighter regulations.

At the EU borders seizures of drugs coming from countries outside of the EU or the EEA countries have skyrocketed from 2010 to 2011, and it is highly disturbing, says The Danish Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry.

“What is seized at EU borders is from outside countries, and the statistic recently published by the EU commission concerns seizures at the EU borders. The new numbers are very alarming. It is a tremendous surge,” Ulla Høegh of The Danish Association of the Pharmaceutical Industry tells Medwatch.
