The Danish researchers have succeeded in developing a method that gives a precise image of how the immune system works. Using 5 mm thick silicone tubes the researchers have created a model that isolates the bacteria and the immune system, letting them see how the two interact.

So far, researchers have only been able to speculate about what happens when chronic bacteria overpower the immune system, but now they can actually observe it.
