
The severely criticized hip-implant ASR had Dansk Ortopædisk Selskab (Danish Orthopedic Company) suspend the use of metal hips entirely. But the manufacturers of the prosthetic hip might have found a loophole, so the hip replacement could be used for Danish patients after all. For some patients this type of hip replacement is the best option, it turns out.
New research, conducted by Aalborg University and Oxford University, points to the root of the problem with metal-to-metal hips.
