The Fort Knox of Pharma is successfully crumbling

A paradigm-shift is sweeping over the European pharmaceutical-industry at the moment. Novo Nordisk and Lundbeck are among the juggernauts that - with great success - embrace archrivals and cooperate for new technology and research-methods.

Whereas pharmaceutical giants previously treated their knowledge as treasures locked away behind impenetrable vault-doors, a new era has now been ushered in within the pharmaceutical-industry. Now, competitors work together and pool their knowledge, so they can lift the European pharmaceutical sector by a joint effort.

In 2008 the EU-commission and the European pharmaceutical companies decided to try and help themselves and others through a cooperative effort to develop new methods, technology and common databases, known as the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI).
