General practitioners reject the need for diabetes guidelines

Already before the implementation, practitioners criticize the Danish Medicines Council's "unnecessary" treatment guidelines for type 2 diabetes. The medical industry warns against a too one-sided focus on price.

The Danish Medicines Council's plan about national treatment guidelines for the increasing number of patients with type 2 diabetes is poorly received among practitioners.

Partly because several guidelines already exist and partly because the general practitioners are not represented in the Medicines Council's advisory group, which could make the guidelines less relevant and applicable in general practice. Moreover, practitioners are far away from the council's calculations when they interact with patients.
