Health economists: Central medtech procurement service can produce savings

According to health economists, the Danish health system could save significant sums by letting Amgros handle the procurement of both medicines and medical equipment as the government suggests.

The Danish government would be wise to make the procurement organization Amgros responsible for purchasing both medicines and medical devices like catheters, wheelchairs and surgery equipment, as it is proposed in the new healthcare reform.

Today, each of the five regions of Denmark are responsible for buying the medical devices. However, centralized procurement could save the health system a lot of money, assess health economists.
