This month it is 90 years since the first Danish diabetes patient was given insulin. Medwatch takes a closer look at the major milestones in the history of the medicine, the major milestones for the Danish diabetes giant Novo Nordisk in that period and which milestones may lie ahead.

March, 1923. The first Danish diabetes patient is treated with insulin. The insulin is produced by Nordisk Insulinlaboratorium and is the first small step on the road to fame for what is now Denmark’s – even Scandinavia’s – most valuable company, Novo Nordisk.
