
The Danish Cancer Association has been conducting research into so-called lysosomes, which are small acidic organelles found in healthy as well as cancerous cells. Their function is to break down waste material in the cells, however, the lysosomes in cancerous cells are more unstable than in healthy cells, meaning that if the lysosomes leak into the actual cell it can effectively kill it.
But now The Danish Cancer Association provides new knowledge about how to target lysosomes, the association writes in a press release:
