Cancer defence-protein discovered

Danish scientists have discovered a protein that enables some cancer cells to survive radiation therapy. The discovery might allow for a new combination treatment.

When a cancer patient receives radiation therapy, it is no certainty that all cancer cells are eliminated in the process, as they have the ability to repair the damages caused by the, otherwise cancer-killing, radiotherapy.

But now researchers from the Danish Cancer Society Research Center have discovered the key role played by a certain protein in the cells’ repair system.
